Green Weddings
We are committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility and thanks to our work and continuous improvement we have been accredited by Green Tourism. We can help you make your wedding greener and more sustainable in a myriad of ways.
- For each wedding we will plant a native tree with Hometree charity, who are working on establishing, restoring and protecting permanent Irish native woodlands. If you’d like to mark your wedding day by planting more trees and receive a certificate, we would be happy to assist in that.
- All our wedding packages include candelabra and cherry blossom decorations so you can avoid buying disposable decorations or flowers.
- We cater for both civil wedding ceremony and reception, so that you and your guests can avoid unnecessary travel and reduce carbon footprint of the celebrations.
- Consider reducing carbon footprint of your menu by requesting options that feature, as many as possible, of the best local ingredients that are currently in season.
- Let our Head Chef Paddy and his team skilfully craft satisfying vegetarian and vegan options, as part of a more sustainable menu choice.
- We offer local beer made just across the Shannon River by Treaty City Brewery, as well as vegan and organic wine options.
- We can provide QR codes for the wedding menus to minimise printing and paper use.
- If you’d like instead of wedding favours, you can choose to make a donation to Hometree charity, through link on our website or a QR code we provide.
More tips for making your Wedding greener
- Why not use digital invitations from greenenvelope.com or other service to reduce the use of paper further. You can personalise your invitations to suit your style just as the traditional ones.
- For bridal bouquet and floral centrepieces try using flowers grown locally and potted flower centre pieces, that you can enjoy for longer. Avoiding imported exotic flowers will significantly reduce the carbon footprint associated with the transportation.
- Support local businesses to cater for your wedding needs from photographer and band, through florists, to make-up artist, hairdressers etc. We can provide recommendations including more sustainable options.
- To make your wedding attire more sustainable, you can either choose local boutiques and clothing designers following sustainable practices. You may opt for a second-hand or rent wedding attire to avoid spending a fortune for an outfit that you won’t wear ever again. To buy or sell your wedding dress visit rebride.ie or sellmyweddingdress.ie
- If your ceremony takes place in a different location, you may consider organising a group transport. It’ll help to reduce the carbon footprint of your big day and it’s a thoughtful gesture towards your guests.
- Choose a charity close to your heart for donation instead of wedding favours. We can provide QR code or link for donations to our partner Hometree charity.
- Lab grown diamonds are typically the most ethical and sustainable option, without sacrificing the look. When buying engagement ring or wedding bands ensure the gems and minerals have certification of ethical and conflict-free sourcing, labour protection certification and extraction with practices protecting the environment or made of recycled materials.
